My name is Beckham Connolly. I’m a photographer working mainly in the St. Louis, Missouri, area. although some of my photography spans to New Orleans, Louisiana.
My love of photography was born in around 2003; my dad had died earlier that year. Growing up, I only had a handful of photos of him. I would spend hours looking at them, trying to remember him. As I aged, I clung to those photos. Then when I was 14, my grandmother developed Alzheimer’s. She also started to find herself in her photos, for however briefer of periods.
It was around this time that I got my first semi-professional camera. It came to school with me everyday and stayed right beside me at home. The photos I got during that time are some of my favorites. Common subjects were my childhood dogs, who have since passed on; my grandmother, who hasn’t recognized me since those photos were taken; and classmates from the Alabama School of Fine Arts, whom I may never see again.
Before I fell in love with photography, I fell in love with people and moments. I didn’t pick up a camera to make money. I didn’t pick up a camera to project my reality on the world, I picked it up to preserve yours. When you book with me, I will never tell you to smile. I will never tell you how to pose or stand. I will never tell you how to exist in the world.
My photography style is 100% candid. Real life moments, as they happen. So real that a stranger could look at the photos and feel the love radiating out of them. So real that years from now, when the moment is gone and everyone has walked different paths, you can look back at these photos and realize that you didn’t book a photoshoot, you booked a memory.
